Since 1919, The American Legion has operated with a clear and enduring purpose: to serve those who have served, strengthen the nation, and uphold the values that define American democracy.  That purpose is built on four foundational pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. These pillars guide the organization’s advocacy, outreach, and service.

Training Courses & Resources

Training is important and available on any subject and can be learned from many media forms.  Training is available at post level, Department (State) and National level.  

The links below will direct you to the National website training area.   The Basic Training course is suggested for all Officers and membership complete the course on line yearly.  Changes happen at a fast pace.    Basic Training | The American Legion
